In my opinion, what sets Brown apart from most schools it the "Brown Curriculum." At Brown, there
are no "core requirements" forcing you to take classes which you don't care about. In order to graduate,
you need to complete 30 courses, and fulfill the degree requirements for your concentration. Additionally,
you can take any course "Satisfactory/No Credit" (pass/fail). Any classes outside your prerequisites and concentration
requirements are entirely up to you. Many thanks to Ira Magaziner '69, co-designer of the curriculum, and Clinton
health care guy.

My major activity during my four years was membership in the Brown University Band. I played clarinet for two years, and was drum major for the last two. We weren't a marching band per se; like several other Ivy bands, we scatter to our positions during halftime, making a sort of "zoop" sound as we go. Frankly, we had more fun this way.
During my four years, I saw a lot of bad football, and some pretty good hockey. I estimate that I traveled over 15,000 miles on band buses during my four years of attending Brown sporting events. That's a lot of beer and drinking songs... My friends still haven't let me forget the time I nearly fell out a bus window coming home from U. Penn.
For you bandies out there who are reading this (all two of you), I found the original words to The Old Oaken Bucket in a folk song database. If anyone can find the words to Araby's Daughter, please let me know.
